1996 Impala SS Gauge Cluster Installation

1. The most accurate tachometer signal can be obtained from the PCM. There is a problem here, though. The PCM output is for a 8-cylinder tachometer, but the tachometer in this cluster is of the 4-cylinder type. I don't know why. The PCM can be modified to correct this problem by adding a circuit to the PCM board that allows the tachometer in the gauge cluster to indicate correctly. PCM programming is not altered. | 3. Another alternative is the Dakota Digital SGI-8 Universal Tachometer Signal Interface. Cost is $79.95. I will be installing one of these units with a 96 Impala SS cluster in my 1995 Impala SS. The installation was completed on February 12, 2006 and works flawlessly. |
