This is what happens when a cracked battery leaks acid all over the place.  What a PITA!!!  The acid did a lot of damage, but, surprisingly, did not destroy the hoses or the fittings that go to the canister.  I cleaned the hoses and fittings and used new clamps to re-install a new canister.

I went through the process POR-15 recommends and repainted the area behind the headlights, installed a new wheelwell panel, a new battery tray, and put everything else back together.
